Road Trip!

Memorial Day weekend, we had a fairly uneventful start to a 7 hour *without stops road trip. My two kids and I were solo, sans our driver daddy. Windows down. Wind blowing through our hair as we sang Born to Run. Life was bliss. Well, not exactly. The seats were already sticky from snacks and I was tuning out the sound of my son's leapster game in the backseat.

Then, Peaches, (our 2.5 year old) announced she had to potty. I quickly got off the highway to find a gas station. I would later find out, it was probably for the best that I made this detour. I ended up in Paw Paw, IL. Never heard of it? Me neither. I basically ran parallel to the highway with nary a restroom in sight.

Eventually, I got back on the highway and found a gas station. I decided to let the kids grab a snack for the road. Reaching for my wallet, I made a grim discovery. No, I am not talking about the lint riddled half eaten sucker in my purse. I discovered I had no wallet. *Insert creepy fast zoom in and out on my shocked and horrified face*

After a few choice words, a few tears, ripping my car apart searching, and and a sweet girl telling me "is okay, momma" while she stroked my cheek, I took a deep breath and had a neighbor double check my house. Yep. I left it there.

Time to turn around. Oye. After pointing my car in the wrong direction from our weekend getaway, I saw that there had been a rest area one exit past where I got off the highway. Had we stopped there, I likely would not have checked my purse. Who knows how much farther we would have gotten before discovering the wallet debacle.

Thankfully, our neighbor met me along the way for the wallet swap and I gave her nearly all the cash I had on me as a thank you. What a mess.

Good news was, I had no expectations for time or how this trip would go. Minor setback.

Many stops later, we were still 2 hours out. It had been 10 hours in the car. You do the math. Sigh - we lost a lot of time. The kids managed well, all things considered. I was ready to be there when I decided to tear open a packet of my favorite pink drink and chug me a second Slim of the day.

The reason I share all of this, is to relive my stupidity tell you that I am cured! Cured of what you say? CURED of my sugar addiction. On my most stressful days, I eat candy. On my most bored days, I eat candy. On my most sad days, I eat candy. On most days, I eat candy.

That changed in October of 2015. Thanks to Plexus, my sugar cravings are so minimal. I still LOVE me some sweet treats, but I do not binge like I used to. I. COULD. NOT. STOP.

This road trip helped me see my body is healthier. I am healthier. I did not eat a bag of twizzlers, a box of Mike and Ikes and drink a few Diet Dr. Peppers. I am so excited for this change in me. I share with whoever will listen.

Now, don't get me wrong...I still make some lousy food decisions at times. Take for instance the #1 from McDonald's I ordered on the drive home. I don't normally get a combo because I legit DO NOT care for the taste of soda anymore. I thought a swig of Coke would taste good. I took the 24 oz cup they gave me put 1/4 of ice in it and less than half Coke. After eating my Big Mac (sigh- don't look at me!), I took MAYBE 3 sips of soda to wash it down. Then I was DONE. Done, I tell you. I tossed it in the trash.
